Susan Wales

Panel Moderator

A born storyteller, author and producer, Susan Wales, wife of producer Ken Wales, grew up in the South in Alabama and Georgia. Wales is a popular speaker throughout the United States. A partner in Gaga Animation with Jeff Holder, former vice president of animation of SONY, she has also spoken internationally on storytelling in production in India and France. She is also the Executive Producer of the Annual MOVIEGUIDE® Awards, known as the Christian “Oscars”. A producer for various TV interview show segments, Susan also assisted her husband Ken, the Executive Producer of the acclaimed CBS series based on Catherine Marshall’s book, Christy.

Wales co-authored Faith in God and Generals and The Amazing Grace of Freedom, companion books for the films, Gods and Generals produced and directed by Ron Maxwell and Amazing Grace, produced by her husband, Ken Wales.

The Wales live in Pacific Palisades, California. Their daughter Megan, son-in-law and granddaughter Hailey live in New Orleans and Phoenix.


Rick Eldridge

The Film Foundry was created in 2004 by independent producer, Rick Eldridge, and in a short time has become the premier facility of its kind in North Carolina.  Rick Eldridge, CEO of The Film Foundry, has been a champion of quality entertainment - from music to television to films - for more than 25 years. His resume is a road map to an extraordinary career that includes some of the best and most respected names in the Industry: Universal, Disney, and ESPN, to name a few.Eldridge formed RAE Creative in 1990, his own production/development studio and the client list has grown to include: ABC/Disney, CBS, Fox, NBC Sports, ESPN, PAX, and USA Network. His latest movie is The Ultimate Gift. He's also a talented music composer and producer, having scored numerous film and television programs. He has won over thirty Telly Awards, 6 Communicator Awards, 4 New York Festivals World Medal Awards, and 2 US International Film and Video Festival Awards for projects such as The Legend of the Three Trees, The Crippled Lamb, The Legend of the Candy Cane, A Father's Heart hosted by FOX Sports' James Brown, and the series Hermie & Friends. In 2004, his feature film Bobby Jones: Stroke of Genius won a Heartland Film Festival "Truly Moving Pictures" Award of Excellence and was nominated for the ESPY "Best Sports Movie" Award.His company, The Film Foundry consists of several businesses operating under the oversight of RAE Management:Southend Post & Design:

Bruce Johnson,

Bruce Johnson is recognized as a prolific creative talent, with numerous producing credits for feature films, television movies, series, specials, and documentaries.  A multiple Emmy Award winner, Johnson co-founded PorchLight Entertainment in 1995 with the entire family as its target audience. 

From a start-up company in 1995, PorchLight has emerged as one of the world’s leading independent family entertainment companies, distributing a library of more than 1500 episodes of children’s programming and nearly 200 movies.  The Company’s divisions include Children’s Programming and Prime Time Entertainment, Worldwide Program Sales, DVD Distribution, Educational Media, Licensing & Merchandising and Digital Media. 

Johnson’s recent executive producing credits include Tutenstein, the multiple Emmy-Award winning animated series for Discovery Kids; Animalia, now playing on PBS, CBC, BBC; Secret Saturdays for Cartoon Network; and six best-selling  LeapFrog DVDS including A Tad of Christmas Cheer.  He also created and executive produced the award winning Adventures from The Book of Virtues.  Under Johnson’s leadership, the company has produced nearly 400 episodes of animation and over 40 movies, delivering programming to a wide variety of U.S. networks including PBS, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, ABC Family, Disney Channel, Lifetime, Showtime, HBO, History Channel, Discovery, Animal Planet, Sci Fi Channel and others.

Prior to forming PorchLight, Johnson was Executive Vice President and General Manager of Hanna-Barbera Entertainment Co.  He was involved with the development and launch of the Cartoon Networks worldwide for Turner Entertainment, following Turner’s acquisition of Hanna-Barbera in 1991.  

Johnson is a graduate of the University of Minnesota, Morris, with a B.A. degree in English.  In 2002, he was named a Distinguished Graduate of the university.  He also received Master's and Ph.D. degrees from Northwestern University. May-Lynn Chang

May-Lynn Chang is the Strategic Marketing Director for Walden Media, producer of The Chronicles of Narnia, The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, Charlotte's Web and Amazing Grace.  After receiving her law degree, May-Lynn worked as a Trust Officer at Wells Fargo Bank in San Francisco.  She then argued Medicare Appeals on behalf of gravely disabled elderly and children for Massachusetts.  Merging her passion for kingdom expansion and love of movies, she joined Walden Media in 2005 to help market the film Amazing Grace internationally. Her focus remains with partnering with family and faith audiences in grassroots campaigns for Walden films. 

Nancy Stafford


Nancy Stafford has been an actress for 25 years, starring in several TV movies and five TV series, including 5 years as Andy Griffith’s law partner on “Matlock”, and 3 years on the Emmy-winning “St Elsewhere”.  She’s guest-starred on “Judging Amy” and “ER”, among others, and hosted the lifestyle/beauty series “Main Floor” for 10 years. Her film, “The Wager”, starring Randy Travis, was just released on DVD.
 
A popular speaker, she is the author of Beauty by the Book: Seeing Yourself as God Sees You, and The Wonder of His Love: A Journey into the Heart of God.

Douglas B. Maddox

Douglas Maddox has been producing films and videos and new media content for
over 19 years. In 1990, Douglas began DBM Communications, Inc., a highly
successful Film, HD and New Media services company working with a wide base of
clients such as Bill Me Later serving Wallmart, Apple, and other top 500 companies.
Douglas is also president of Evergreen Entertainment Corporation, a film
development company in Los Angeles. As president of Evergreen he has
successfully optioned many studio and indie scripts. Some of the titles in
development are Journey of Discovery - (Lewis and Clark) which is a 25 million
budget film, Howard Kazanjian producing. Pizza King is an indie film that is
traveling the festival circuit this year. It has premiered at Tallahassee Film Festival,
and has won a Crown award, Telly award, Communicators award and an accolade.
Evergreen is also in talks with Fox for an animated Christmas special. Currently
Douglas is executive producing, The Bill Collector for Messenger Films filming in
Hampton Roads, VA in the fall.
In addition, Douglas travels nationally and internationally to consult, produce and
teach about media production including video/ film, print, and multimedia/web.
Doug is also a member of the Producer's Guild of America and serves on the
Broadband committee of the new media counsel.
Douglas has been a Professor at Towson University in the Electronic Media and Film
Department for over 7 years. Douglas is recognized in Lexington Who's Who and is
an award recipient of over 25 Telly, Communicator and Aurora Awards for his
production work.

 

 

Cecil Stokes

Cecil Stokes founded Tentmakers Entertainment in 1999. He has executive produced and/or produced more than 1500 television shows for the following networks: A&E, Court TV, DIY Network, ESPN, Fine Living, Food Network, HGTV, History Channel, TNN, the Travel Channel and Turner South. For his television programming, Cecil has won Cable Ace, Communicator, New York Film Festival, and Telly awards. In 2004, Tentmakers Entertainment began work on their first independent documentary film “A Man Named Pearl.” AMNP tells the inspiring story of self-taught topiary artist Pearl Fryar. It is a subtle and intriguing film that has opened hearts and minds. It offers an upbeat message that speaks to respect for both self and others, and shows what a person can achieve when he allows himself to share the full expression of his humanity. “A Man Named Pearl” was awarded the Crystal Heart Award for Inspiration at the Heartland Film Festival and also was accepted to the Palm Springs Film Festival. AMNP is currently playing in 70 cities across the United States.

 

Tentmakers Entertainment recently completed “Children of All Ages,” a documentary that pays loving tribute to one of the greatest American institutions, the traveling circus. CAA offers an unprecedented look at life “under the canvas” from some of the greatest living Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey performers.

Cecil’s mantra in life is “To Whom Much is Given, Much is Expected.” To that end, he created Amazon Expeditions and the Amazon Initiative. Amazon Expeditions is an Adventure Travel Company and Eco-Lodge that offers Amazon River vacations and excursions for a cause. AE exists as a vehicle to raise money for community aid and development projects for at-risk communities in the northeastern Amazon region of Peru. A portion of the money raised from these adventure-vacations is used to provide solar power, wells for pure drinking water, medical missions and college education funding. This mission is to provide hope, sustainable energy and medical relief to the people of the Amazon River basin through tourism in the region. Cecil is a published poet and is working on a collection of short stories as well as co-authoring his first novel with Christy Award Winner Ann Tatlock.

Deborah Raney

DEBORAH RANEY is at work on her seventeenth novel. Her books have won the RITA Award, the HOLT Medallion, National Readers' Choice Award and Silver Angel from Excellence in Media. Her newest books are the Clayburn Novels from Howard Books/Simon & Schuster. Deb serves on the advisory board of American Christian Fiction Writers. She and her husband, Ken Raney, have four children and enjoy small-town life in Kansas.

Deborah's first novel, A Vow to Cherish, inspired the World Wide Pictures film of the same title. The made-for-television movie aired in 200 major markets in September 1999 and again in December 2004. The film won a Silver Angel, a bronze Omni Award and a Gold Special Jury Award at the WorldFest Houston International Film Festival. It is now available on video and on DVD in seven languages. Carole Whang Schutter

Carole Whang Schutter was born and raised in Honolulu , Hawaii . She graduated with a degree in Psychology from the University of Hawaii and is an evangelical Christian. Carole has been a motivational speaker to live audiences, and on TV and radio shows. She now occupies her time writing, skiing, and hiking in Aspen . Her enduring interest in religion and passion for history led her to write “September Dawn,” her first screenplay written in collaboration with Director/Producer Christopher Cain which inspired the novel “September Dawn.” She has optioned a second screenplay and is currently working on several screenplays, an inspirational book, and a historical fiction family saga that takes place in her home state Hawaii .


Biography of Creative Director, Jeffrey J. Varab 

Jeffrey J. Varab started his career at The Disney Animation Studios in 1977, where he was trained by Eric Larson, one of Disney’s original “9 Old Men”.  Varab has worked on over 15 major feature films starting with “Tron” (1980), “The Fox and the Hound” (1982), “The Black Cauldron” (1984), and the special effects/live action film “The Black Hole.”  

In 1982, Varab produced and directed several films for his first company, Varab-Stegelmann Productions, based in Denmark, where in 1986 “Valhalla” won critical acclaim and the Special Recognition Award at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival.  For the next four years, Varab headed up Steven Spielberg’s AMBLIN Animation in London and Supervised Animation with Don Bluth in Dublin Ireland, working on “All Dogs go to Heaven,” “Rock-A-Doodle,” “Fern Gully the last Rain Forest” and “A Troll in Central Park.”  While at AMBLIN, Varab worked on such titles as “The Land Before Time” (1988), “We’re back, a Dinosaurs Story” (1992) and “Balto” (1994).  

Varab then returned to the states to work on the Amblin/Universal film “Casper” (1995) at the George Lucas facility ILM (Industrial Light and Magic), where he was first introduced and trained in computer generated (CG) animation.  Varab has continued to work in both CG and traditional animation on films such as “Mulan” (1997), “Titan A.E.” (2000),

Kathi Macias
